They are responsible for designing the homes of private individuals. In order to work for a residential architecture firm, one must have at least a bachelor's degree in architecture and some experience. They are required to know how to sketch properly and use programs such as CAD and SketchUp.

A bachelor's degree in architecture is necessary for this career. Some sort of experience, such as an internship, would also be recommended.

The University of Virginia and Virginia Tech both have great architecture programs. V-Tech specifically is known for its STEM education.
